About Us

Ellen Coyle lives close to Staad Abbey, which may have been a ferry point for the monastic community on Inishmurray. It was through research into the Abbey that Ellen found the FOI and became a member of the board.
“I believe that preserving our unique Irish ancient sites and their environment is essential for protecting our cultural heritage and natural legacy for future generations. These sites offer valuable insights into human history, creativity, and identity, while the environment sustains life and biodiversity. Together, they form a bridge between the past and the future, enriching education, and scientific understanding. Without preservation, we risk losing irreplaceable knowledge, beauty, and the balance of ecosystems that support our world.”

Alan lives near Tullaghan and has been involved in community heritage and development projects for nearly two decades. His day job takes him across Ireland as a respected tourism, recreation and heritage consultant working with public, private and community clients. He said recently of his new role “I’ve seldom come upon a more worthy project than assisting in the conservation and sustainable development of this truly unique island. With a brave shared vision, team working and adequate resources Inishmurray can become a signature heritage project for our children and their children.”
